It's usually for other people, rather than for myself, so my sister is very used to me calling her up and asking her if she spoke to our "stepfather" lately. He's in his 80's now, and every once in a while, out of the blue I will think of him, and I wonder, "Am I thinking of him, because he's not going to be with us much longer?" So I call my sister and tell her to call him, just in case. He and my Mom were dating for many years, and he ended up marrying someone else, but they remained friends, but my sister and he were very very close, and he walked her down the aisle when she got married, along with my Mother. My Dad died when she was 14. I always liked him, but he and I weren't that close.
